Better known for his paintings of New Hampshire and Maine, Robbins exhibited several paintings of the Swiss and French Alps in the 1870's. Although he was an elected Academician at the National Academy of Design he began studying law at Columbia University in 1890 at the age of 48. In 1892 he passed the New York State Bar Exam.
