Fine American Paintings
A true arcadian, American renaissance work, the title of this painting loosely translates as the "sweetness of leisure". This painting was illustrated in 1892 in The Century Magazine and again in 1895 in a retrospective article on Low that appeared in McClure's Magazine. In 1889 the painting was exhibited at the Century Association in New York City. It was also shown at the home of Levi P. Morton, vice-president under Benjamin Harrison in a exhibition of American paintings.
