Pitchfork Falls, Alaska
23-1/2 x 16 inches
Signed Lower Right
A period index card affixed to the back of this work identifies it as Pitchfork falls Alaska, 14 miles north of Slogway, (Skagway) Alaska. It also dates the work as being executed on August 24, 1916, and as being exhibited at the New York Watercolor Club also in 1916.
Jane Peterson was extremely well traveled and painted everywhere she went. Skagway is a port town where cruise ships dock and Pitchfork Falls is a 3000 foot waterfall. It is precisely the type of place that would have attracted Peterson.
